Getting started
Which digital marketing service should I start with?
It depends on your objectives, your website, and where you are today. The “Not sure where to start?” list at the top of this page is a quick guide. If it is still unclear, describe your situation and we can work out which area is most relevant.
Can I enquire about more than one service?
Yes. Services can be discussed individually or together, where combining them makes sense for your goals. Many projects only need one.
How do I discuss a potential project?
Use the “Discuss Your Project” button to get in touch. Tell me what you’re working on, what you want to improve, and the challenges you’re facing.
Do you offer customized project scopes?
Yes. Scope, priorities, and deliverables are discussed according to your requirements. Details such as pricing, timelines, availability, and contracts are worked out during project scoping.
Can you guarantee rankings, traffic, or leads?
No, and be cautious of anyone who does. Google itself says there are no secrets that automatically rank a site first, and that there is no guarantee any particular site will even be indexed. What I can offer is a clear plan, honest priorities, and reporting on the indicators that matter for your goals.
SEO and content
How long does SEO take to show results?
There is no fixed answer. Google says some changes can take effect in a few hours while others can take several months, and it suggests waiting a few weeks before judging whether a change helped. Timing depends on your site’s current state, competition, and what is being changed, so I don’t quote a standard timeline.
What is the difference between technical SEO, on-page SEO, and content strategy?
Technical SEO covers how search engines crawl, render, and index your site. On-page SEO covers how individual pages are structured and optimized for the topics they target. Content strategy decides what to publish, for whom, and in what order, so the site covers its subject properly. They work best together, and a review usually shows which one needs attention first.
Do you write the content, or only plan it?
Both are possible. Content work can include strategy and planning, website and landing page copy, blog content, and optimizing existing pages. What is included is agreed when we scope the project.
Paid marketing
Should I choose SEO or paid ads?
They do different jobs. Paid ads can put you in front of people for specific campaigns and goals while the spend runs, and SEO builds organic visibility over a longer period. The right balance depends on your goals, budget, competition, and how quickly you need visibility. Many businesses use both, and it is not a choice you have to make blindly.
Does the ad budget go through you?
That is a scoping decision. Ad spend is paid to the advertising platform, separate from any service fee, and how accounts are set up and who holds access is agreed with you in advance. I’d recommend your ad accounts always remain in your name.
Website development
Will a new website or redesign hurt my existing search visibility?
It can if it is not handled carefully. Google notes that rankings can fluctuate while it recrawls a changed site, and that old URLs should be mapped and permanently redirected to their new equivalents. Planning the URL structure, redirects, and indexing settings before launch, and monitoring afterwards, is what keeps that risk down. If your site already earns organic traffic, this is worth raising at the start.
Which platforms do you build on?
That depends on what the site needs to do and who will manage it afterwards. I’d rather recommend a platform based on your requirements than push one by default, and we can discuss the options when scoping.
AI search (AEO/GEO)
What are AEO and GEO, and how are they different from SEO?
Answer Engine Optimization (AEO) and Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) are two names for largely the same idea: making your content easy for AI-assisted search to understand and cite in its answers. Traditional SEO aims to rank pages in a list of results, while GEO aims to have your brand selected as a source in a generated answer. The two overlap heavily, and the terminology is still settling across the industry.
Does AI search need special markup or files?
According to Google, no. For AI Overviews and AI Mode it states there are no additional requirements or special optimizations beyond standard SEO fundamentals: crawlable and indexable pages, helpful text content, good internal linking, a good page experience, and structured data that matches the visible content. AI search work therefore starts with getting those fundamentals right.
Can you get my business mentioned in ChatGPT, Gemini, or Perplexity?
I can’t promise that, and nobody honestly can. AI answers vary from one query to the next, and the sources they cite change often. What can be done is improving how clearly your content and brand are presented, checking how AI tools currently describe your business, and tracking changes over time.
Google Business Profile
Is my business eligible for a Google Business Profile?
Google requires a business to have a physical location customers can visit, or to travel to customers at their locations. Service-area businesses can have a profile with a defined service area. Virtual offices, P.O. boxes, and rented mailing addresses where the business doesn’t operate are not eligible. Eligibility is Google’s decision, so I check it with you before any work begins.
Is Google Business Profile the same as Google My Business?
Yes. Google renamed Google My Business to Google Business Profile, and many people still use the older name.
Can you help if my profile is already set up?
Yes. An existing profile can be reviewed and improved for accuracy, categories, service and business descriptions, and completeness. Profile access and ownership stay with you.
Working together
Can you help with an existing website?
Yes. An existing website can be reviewed and improved across search visibility, content, structure, and how it supports your marketing. What that involves depends on the site and your goals, and we can look at it when scoping the project.
What do you need from me to get started?
A short description of your business, your goals, the challenges you’re facing, and your website address if you have one. Depending on the service, I may later ask for access to tools such as analytics, Search Console, or ad accounts. You keep ownership of all of them.
